“God’s faithful presence equips us to share the good news of life with Christ as we embrace change, act with courage, seek justice, connect our vibrant worship to the rhythms of daily life, and work for peace among all people and all creation.”
The mission ministry of First Presbyterian Church is guided by our mission statement and a desire to reach out in faith to our local and global communities. Our goals for the mission program are:
- Comfort the oppressed
- Feed the hungry
- Heal the sick
- Seek justice
- Clothe and shelter those in need
- Preach the gospel
- Protect God’s creation
We have an active mission ministry team who guides our mission efforts in many diverse areas, both locally and globally! These areas are described below.
Local Mission Support Areas
Community Dinner: Since 2006, our church has hosted a free meal every Saturday evening for anyone in our community. Nearly 5,000 meals per year are provided to our guests. For more information, click here.
Habitat for Humanity: We provide resources – both dollars and manpower – to provide housing in the McMinnville area for families who otherwise would not be able to own their home.
Yamhill County Gospel Rescue Mission: As one of the original supporters of this vital local ministry, we have provided funds to support the temporary lodging and life counseling for local people in need.
Juliette’s House: A local agency which provides comfort and support to abused children.
Henderson House: A local agency which provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA): A local agency which provides support to neglected children under court jurisdiction.
Angel Tree: Each Christmas, we donate gifts to children on behalf of a parent that is currently in prison.
Global Mission Support Areas
Presbyterian Partnership Giving: Recognizing the benefit of being a connectional church, we provide a portion of our congregational pledges to the PC(USA) to support worldwide mission, disaster relief and outreach programs. We also support our denomination’s efforts through special offerings such as the One Great Hour of Sharing, Peace and Global Witness, and Christmas Joy Offering.
IMCK/Good Shepherd Hospital: This medical center includes the hospital, clinics, and training centers for medical relief in central Democratic Republic of Congo. For more Information, click here.
